Umberto Eco was quoted in the NY Times as wanting to have on his tombstone a quote from an early Italian writer, 'Wait. Wait. I can not.' To describe this feeling of inevitable translation from youth to death, I have used a group of tulips. The first is dense color and is on heavy paper. Each following tulip is lighter in color and is on lighter and lighter weight paper until the final tulip is simply a ghost. The printing process is photocopy, with woodcuts, pochoir and pencil rubbing. Special papers include mulberry, sekishu, silk tissue and Okawara. Each cover is a unique piece of paste paper.
